Education is...

Thought for the day

I’m part of a program working with kids and it baffles my mind how kids can go through the system and end up in high school with tons of problems that teacher upon teacher and administrator upon administrator have chosen to blatantly ignore. Why? I know there are plenty of teachers who care and who care a lot so where does the main aspect of this problem lie? It really makes me consider teaching…. Where are the teachers who change the system and who get things done? Are there just not enough of them out there?

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.

If you put the number of teachers vs. the number who care, i doubt there are "plenty". Teachers get paid a relatively miniscule salary and have to work towards promotions and retirement. The people who make school policy @ board offices, etc. are looking at moving up to the next slot in their political hierarchy.Student teacher ratios are ridiculous (another area which safe sex and abortion affect). Changing the system does not lead to these things...graduating as many students as possible regardless of aptitude does...i firmly believe that most teachers don't care...and also get no respect from the kids b/c of this assembly line system of depersonalization and deemphasizing scholastic results...they're teaching b/c they have a degree that is in a field they couldn't get a job in...some states, no undergrad degree is even needed...i have a friend who teaches in philly and she's wonderful, buys clothes for kids that don't have them, brings food for them, etc, but that is not, i would say, even close to the norm...but wait, pirating music and movies is a heinous crime...b/c there is no MONEY in contributions and kickbacks from education...

Where are the teachers who change the system and who get things done?

in movies about the past...
